Will Ryan Gravenberch make his Liverpool debut this weekend? Dutch midfielder ready to face Wolves

Ryan Gravenberch was a last-minute signing for Liverpool during the 2023 summer transfer window and could now make his debut this weekend.

The Reds agreed to pay Bayern Munich £34million for the midfielder, and he will be raring to go.

The 21-year-old was once seen as one of the brightest prospects around but lost his way a little in Germany.

Jurgen Klopp will now be hoping to get the best out of him and with Liverpool playing Wolves this weekend live on talkSPORT, Reds supporters could get their first glimpse.

Will Gravenberch make his Liverpool debut this weekend?

Gravenberch has given himself the best possible chance to play at some point this weekend because he didn’t leave for the international break.

The midfielder was called up by the Dutch Under-21s, but he told them he wanted to ‘focus on his new club’.

This hasn’t gone down well in his native Netherlands.

Speaking to the press about Gravenberch’s decision, Dutch Under-21s boss Michael Reizger said: “I don’t think it’s a good decision.

“I told him that too. I really don’t think it’s a good decision.

“I know Ryan, I think he is a good boy, a sympathetic boy, but he made the wrong choice.”

Dutch senior manager and former Everton boss Ronald Koeman also wasn’t too happy.

But although this could impact his international career in the short term, it will probably help his Liverpool tenure get off to a good start.

Klopp said in his pre-match press conference: “He’s a player at a new club so he’s had training sessions here. We have games every three days now so he knows where he will live, he has a car and he has organised everything around that. I understand the Dutch were not happy but he used the break to fix a lot.”

By choosing to stay on Merseyside, Gravenberch has given himself plenty of extra days to integrate into the team and form relationships.

Alexis Mac Allister’s late return from international duty in South America has opened up the door for Gravenberch to feature.

On his new signing, Klopp added: “The package is really interesting. He’s good in small spaces, he’s good in big spaces as well. He can accelerate. He has a good overview. Good passer, good shooter.

“Full week training now. He’s working extremely hard, he only arrived yesterday but with Cody [Gakpo], Virgil [van Dijk] and the age group, he’s a good guy with massive potential.

“He has to fit in, he will, how long it will take, I don’t know. We will work on that, I’m happy he is and we can start that.”

It would be a surprise if Gravenberch doesn’t make his debut at Molineux, but it’s very unlikely he will start.
