When will Alexis Mac Allister return for Liverpool? Reds star forced to wait over a month for next appearance after red card

Alexis Mac Allister will have a long wait before making his next Liverpool appearance after being sent off against Bournemouth.

The World Cup winner had a home debut to forget at Anfield after receiving a straight red card for a high boot on Ryan Christie.

Mac Allister’s dismissal was the first of his career and he is now set to miss the Reds’ next three Premier League games.

However, Liverpool have now appealed the decision to award the red card in hopes of the FA reversing it and removing his suspension.

When will Mac Allister return for Liverpool?

If the appeal is unsuccessful, Mac Allister will miss three games.

He will be unable to feature in Liverpool’s upcoming clashes against Newcastle on August 27 and Aston Villa on September 3.

The Argentine will then head to international duty with his country before missing a trip to Molineux to face Wolves on September 16.

The ban running over the international break means that he will not feature for over a month for the Reds.

Mac Allister’s return fixture is set to be against West Ham at Anfield on Sunday, September 24.

Mac Allister’s absence is likely to greatly affect Jurgen Klopp’s side who are already light on options in midfield.

And Klopp was not happy with the referee’s decision to brandish the red card at the weekend.

The Liverpool boss told Sky Sports: “We have to talk about it and everyone agrees.

“I 100 per cent understand how it looks for the ref in that moment but when you see it back it’s the inside of the foot with no power in it.

“We’ve seen harsher challenges that weren’t red cards that should’ve been. I think we should talk about it. If he said it was a yellow, the VAR wouldn’t have upgraded to a red card.

“Everything is lacking for a red card, the intensity. Yes, there was contact but there must be a different intention when it’s a red card. We will talk to the people about it.”
