West Ham close in on the signing of Man City wonderkid Carlos Borges
West Ham United is currently engaged in advanced negotiations with Manchester City for the permanent transfer of winger Carlos Borges, according to talkSPORT. This development comes as West Ham prepares for life without Declan Rice, who recently completed a £105 million move to Arsenal.
Borges, a young talent at City, has showcased his abilities and potential. He notably scored for Portugal against Norway in the Under-19 European Championship semi-finals. West Ham, despite their triumph in the Europa Conference League in June, is determined to rebuild their team following a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
The Hammers are particularly interested in acquiring the services of 19-year-old Borges, who is valued at £14 million. He had an exceptional season for City’s under-21 side, contributing 29 goals and 18 assists in 33 appearances across various competitions. Additionally, Borges has represented Portugal’s U19 team on 16 occasions, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Although Borges has yet to make an appearance for Manchester City’s first team, a move to West Ham could provide him with an opportunity to showcase his skills at the senior level. With less than a month remaining until the start of the new season, West Ham has yet to make a senior signing this summer.
It is worth noting that West Ham now has £105 million at their disposal following Rice’s departure to Arsenal. There have been reports suggesting that manager David Moyes is interested in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire. However, Erik ten Hag, the coach of Maguire’s current club, has expressed his desire for the player to remain with Manchester United.
Earlier this month, there were also rumors linking West Ham to another promising young talent, Dario Osorio from Universidad de Chile. The club seems to be actively exploring various options to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
West Ham United are set to complete the signing of one of Manchester City’s most highly rated young talents, 18 year-old Carlos Borges.
The midfielder, who recently broke into the Man City first-team, has attracted the attention of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea. The teenager, who already played alongside some of the Premier League’s greatest stars, is tipped to become one of the leagues top talents in the future.
The teenager has been closely monitored by West Ham for some time now, and the club have finally managed to agree on a deal to bring the talented youngster to the London Stadium on a permanent deal. It is reported that the fee being paid for the midfielder could rise up to £5 million, with various add-ons included.
West Ham’s manager David Moyes is believed to be extremely excited about the move and is optimistic that the player can have an immediate impact on the side. Speaking to reporters, David Moyes said: “We wanted to make sure that we got the right player for our club and to fill the gap we have in the midfield. Carlos has a lot of potential to develop into a top-class player and he has already shown his quality in the few appearances he has made for Man City. He will be a great addition to our squad.”
The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, subject to the completion of a medical and registration formalities.
