Transfer notebook: Arsenal eye two world-class Jurrien Timber replacements, David De Gea to Saudi Arabia, Nottingham Forest join race for £25m Ligue 1 teen

Arsenal are considering both Benjamin Pavard and Joao Cancelo as possible replacements for the injured Jurrien Timber.

Pavard is desperate to quit Bayern Munich this summer and had been hoping to join Manchester United, but that move has stalled after Harry Maguire rejected a move to West Ham.

The French World Cup winning defender appeals to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta due to his ability to play as a right-back or as a right-sided centre-back.

This notebook has previously reported Arteta is also a big admirer of Cancelo and the Gunners could step in to rival Barcelona in the race to sign the Manchester City ace.

Another possible target is Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, although Saints are under no pressure to sell the former Tottenham man after raising £128million from offloading James Ward-Prowse, Tino Livramento and Romeo Lavia.

De Gea dilemma

David de Gea’s remarkable fall from grace continues with the former Manchester United goalkeeper left in limbo after being snubbed by Bayern Munich.

De Gea’s advisers held talks with Bayern about following England captain Harry Kane to the Allianz Arena, but Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel blocked the move.

The Spaniard, released by United at the end of last season, was close to joining Real Madrid before they signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on loan.

Chelsea are also understood to have considered De Gea as a Kepa replacement but are reluctant to commit to his wage demands.

De Gea rejected lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia earlier this summer but may now be tempted to change his mind.

Competition for Ligue 1 teen

Nottingham Forest are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in Lille midfielder Carlos Baleba.

talkSPORT revealed last week that 19-year-old Baleba is being eyed by Brighton to fill the void left by Moises Caicedo’s move to Chelsea.

But Forest have also held talks for the £25m-rated Cameroonian, who played 20 league games for Lille last season.

Steve Cooper’s side have been far less active in the transfer market this summer than last, but the manager is pushing for reinforcements and Baleba fits the bill.

Out of Ty-me?

Bournemouth are paying an extra £3m for Tyler Adams to settle a dispute about whether they triggered his release clause in time.

Adams had it written in his contract that he could be sold for £20m after Leeds were relegated from the Premier League last season.

That agreement expired on Tuesday, 24 hours after talkSPORT broke the news Bournemouth had given Leeds notice they were triggering the clause.

After protracted negotiations the two clubs came up with a compromise deal after USA captain Adams made it clear to Leeds that he wanted to make the move to the south coast.

The midfielder is a direct replacement for Jefferson Lerma, who quit Bournemouth to join Crystal Palace earlier in the transfer window.
