Stunning slow-mo footage shows Lionel Messi’s first MLS goal and out of this world pass that created it
Lionel Messi scored on his MLS debut as Inter Miami restarted their campaign with a 2-0 win over New York Red Bulls.
After an extended break for the Leagues Cup – which the team co-owned by David Beckham won – it was finally time for Messi to make his Major League Soccer bow.

He did, though, have to do it from the bench after a knock in training – but that didn’t stop the Argentine doing what he does best.
Inter Miami were already 1-0 up when their new signing, and Sergio Busquets, were introduced by manager Tata Martino after 60 minutes.
With 10 goals in seven games in the Leagues Cup, it was no surprise Messi popped up with a strike to seal the victory.
However, once again, it was the exquisite nature of the move that really marked out this effort.
And a slow motion clip of it really lays bare just how frighteningly good Messi looks as he makes America aware of his other-worldly talents on a football pitch.
After receiving the ball thanks to an acrobatic flick from Jordi Alba, who started the clash, Messi spun a defender.
As he ran into traffic, though, he played a stunning pass with the outside of his left boot to Benjamin Cremaschi.
The American, quick-sharp, slung the ball low across goal and there was Messi, unmarked, to stab home.

When the ball was returned to him by Cremaschi, all he has to do was tuck it into an empty net
It’s now 11 goals in nine matches for Inter Miami, a truly breathtaking record.
And Messi will have a chance to improve it on Thursday morning as they host Nashville SC.
