Stuart Pearce details frustration with Marcus Rashford but believes Manchester United star can be like Thierry Henry

Marcus Rashford has attributes like the legendary Thierry Henry but fades out of England matches too much.

This is the view of Three Lions legend Stuart Pearce, who believes the Manchester United star has plenty more to give.

Rashford made his 55th appearance for England on Tuesday night, starting in their 3-1 win over Scotland.

Like many of his teammates, the 25-year-old was impressive in the first half as the Three Lions took a 2-0 lead into the break.

However, he was unable to replicate his efforts in the second half and was substituted in the 71st minute with Eberechi Eze coming on in his place.

Rashford’s inability to maintain such high levels throughout an entire game seems to dishearten Pearce, who said on commentary for talkSPORT: “This is where I sort of have a little bit of a frustration with Rashford.

But Pearce feels as though he can sometimes drift out of matchesGetty

“I think he can grab hold of the game for 90 minutes and run past people and be like a Henry. You remember Henry in the Premier League, it was like a man against kids on occasion.

“I just think he fades out the game too regularly and this second half is a point in case for me.”

When asked after the game if Rashford can give more for England, the former Three Lions captain once again compared him to one of the Premier League’s greatest ever players in Henry.

Pearce added: “Yeah, I think he’s got some of the attributes that Henry had. When I used to watch Henry, he used to grab the game by the scruff of the neck for 90 minutes and ran you ragged and run past people.

Pearce also believes Rashford can emulate Henrygetty

“Marcus has got the ability to do that, I’d just like to see him do a little bit more regularly, I really would.

“There was that period in the second half when the game’s gone against us and I’m thinking, ‘You look a little bit uninterested in the game here.’

“We want you to spark all the time you know, if you possibly can. I know he’s a dynamic athlete and you can’t do it all the time but I always feel as though I want a little bit more from him because he’s such a talent.”

After a quiet couple of games at the beginning of the season, Rashford has started to pick up form for United.

He is likely to remain a key player for club and country in the coming months, especially with England on course for Euro 2024.

The Three Lions opened the scoring at Hampden Park through Phil Foden before Jude Bellingham doubled their lead before the break.

A Harry Maguire own-goal gave Scotland hope of a comeback but Harry Kane netted late on to ensure England emerged victorious.
