Solheim Cup 2023: Dates, schedule, location, competition format and team news as Spain hosts showpiece event
The 2023 Solheim Cup starts later this month as Team Europe look to make it three consecutive wins over rivals Team USA.
The Europeans secured a narrow 15-13 victory at the Inverness Club in Ohio in 2021.

This time, Europe are captained by legend Suzann Pettersen, who sunk the winning putt as a wildcard in 2019’s edition at Gleneagles before announcing her retirement.
Meanwhile, the US are captained by Stacy Lewis, who will become the youngest to fill the role in the USA’s Solheim Cup history.
The last two tournaments have been thrillers, so we are all set for another fascinating week.

Solheim Cup 2023: The format
There are a total of 28 points up for grabs, and the current champions, Europe, need to win 14 of those to claim victory, while the USA need 14.5.
The competition is held over three days and is split into different sections, the foursomes, the fourballs and the singles.
The first two days consist of a mixture between the foursomes and the fourballs and 16 points are up for grabs.
The foursomes see teams of two play alternate shot while the fourballs see each player play her own ball with the best score winning the hole.
And on the final day, there will be 12 singles matches.
Every player will be involved in the singles but the captain will pick and choose the pairs.

Solheim Cup 2023: What has been said?
Team Europe captain Pettersen is already very nervous about the action getting underway.
She said: “I can definitely feel it’s getting closer because I’m having nightmares about it.
“My head’s spinning at night. It’s been at a bit of an arm’s length distance until now but, yeah, with the clock ticking and the team starting to shape up, there are obviously a lot of challenges I have to rise to and questions I have to answer.
“They’re good problems to have but I’m starting to feel it, which is nice.
“The one thing that I really want is for the players to know that I’ll have their back, no matter what, through thick and thin. That’s really important to me. That’s probably my most important role.”
