Peterborough fan embarrasses himself by appearing to spit at Reading fans before suffering spectacular fall

One idiot supporter was left embarrassed after taking a tumble while appearing to try to spit at opposition fans.

The incident happened during Peterborough’s trip to face Reading in League One – a clash that The Posh won 1-0 thanks to Ephron Mason-Clark’s first half goal.

Taking place at Reading’s Select Car Leasing Stadium, it’s normal for away fans to partake in banterous and sometimes hostile exchanges with the home supporters, but one Peterborough fan took things a little bit too far.

Making his way over the in-crowd segregation, the supporter in question made his way over to the Reading fans and appeared to spit in their direction.

However, he got more than he bargained for as upon reaching the railing, the Peterborough supporter lost his balance and went head over heels over the railing and down the stairs.

Stewards then attempted to grab him, before he scuttled back over the railing and seemingly back towards his seat.

This sort of negative publicity is not what Peterborough need as they gear up for what they hope will be a successful campaign.

The Posh made it to the League One play-offs last term where they beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 in the home leg, putting them in a dominant position to secure a spot at Wembley.

However, a 5-1 collapse at Hillsborough led to a penalty shootout defeat that saw the Owls progress to the League One play-off final and ultimately, secure promotion to the Championship.

A Peterborough United fan embarrassed himself after appearing to spit in the direction of Reading supporters before taking a spectacular tumble in the away stand.

The incident occurred during Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at the Madejski Stadium shortly before half-time. In a video clip, the Peterborough fan can be seen standing in the away stand and aggressively spitting in the direction of the home supporters. He was quickly jeered by the Reading fans and to make matters worse, he lost his footing and fell almost to the bottom of the stand, in an embarrassment to himself and the whole of Peterborough United.

Onlookers at the match described the incident as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘deplorable’. Peterborough United have yet to comment, though Reading Football Club has released a statement condemning the incident.

Before being pulled away by a steward, the Peterborough fan had managed to regain his composure and make his exit without further incident. The individual faces the prospect of being banned from Peterborough’s future away matches if his identity is confirmed.

‘Let me be clear,’ Reading’s chief executive Nigel Howe said in a statement, ‘there is no place for such behaviour in football and Reading will be working with Peterborough United and the relevant authorities to identify the individual responsible.’

In a game which recently seen soaring tensions between the two sides, the Peterborough fan’s behaviour has only added to the tension and could set the tone for future matches between the two clubs.
