Mauricio Pochettino explains ‘common sense’ reason why Chelsea’s £115m man Moises Caicedo didn’t start against West Ham

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that a lack of training is the reason why Moises Caicedo only made the bench against West Ham.

Chelsea concluded a British transfer record £115million deal to sign the 21-year-old from Brighton earlier this week, with the Ecuadorian star involved in the Blues’ squad for their Premier League clash at the London Stadium.

The west London side also concluded a deal to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton, with the ex-Man City youngster not included in the squad at all, something that Pochettino was adamant was the right thing to do.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pochettino said: “It’s common sense, but more for Lavia because he arrived later than Moises.

“They didn’t train properly in the last 10 days and many things happened and for Moises to be involved is good, but for Romeo he still needs a few days to settle with the team and the club.

“It’s common sense that both don’t start, but more for Lavia as it’s a decision to avoid injuries.”

Pochettino added: “He’s going to be there because he can be involved at any moment but we might need him for the last an hour, but no more than [that].”
