Manchester United legend Gary Neville predicts Arsenal will win the Premier League despite previously questioning Mikel Arteta’s side

Gary Neville, the former Manchester United legend, has expressed his belief that Arsenal could win their first Premier League title since 2004. In the past, Neville had doubts about Mikel Arteta’s side, suggesting that they would fall short compared to Manchester City. However, after witnessing their explosive start, he has changed his view and now thinks that Arsenal has the potential to end City’s dominance and prevent them from winning a fourth consecutive league championship.

Neville had previously criticized Arsenal for their collapse in the title race last season, highlighting their struggles when faced with tough situations. However, speaking on “The Overlap” ahead of the new season, he praised Arsenal’s signings of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber, stating that they have shown real intent in closing the gap.

While Neville acknowledges that other teams like Chelsea will naturally improve under new management, he doesn’t see them as strong contenders for the league title. He also doesn’t believe that Liverpool or Manchester United have done enough in the transfer window to challenge City. Therefore, in Neville’s opinion, Arsenal is the only team that could potentially challenge City at the moment.

Although Neville still favors City to win the league, he thinks that Arsenal has the determination and the right signings to come close to them. Later in the show, Neville revealed his top six prediction, with Arsenal pipping City to the title. However, he based this prediction on the fact that no Premier League side has ever won four championships in a row.

In conclusion, Neville believes that Arsenal has the potential to win the Premier League title this season, but he still considers City as the favorites. He commends Arsenal for their signings and their determination, and he sees them as the only team capable of challenging City at the moment.
Although it seemed unlikely early in the season that Arsenal had enough quality to challenge for the title, Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes that the Gunners have what it takes to win the Premier League this season.

Based on what we have seen in recent weeks, it appears many of Neville’s doubts about Mikel Arteta’s side have been answered and the Sky Sports pundit believes that they can last the course in the title race.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football this week, Neville said: “They have been the best team so far in 2021, and I think if you look at their fixtures, if they can keep their form and hit the same levels as the first three or four months of 2021, then they will seriously be in this title race.”

Although the north London club remain somewhat of a surprise package in the title race, largely down to their strong defence and reliable midfield, they have become a major contender due to the form of top goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker has scored eight goals in twelve Premier League games this season, while providing two assists.

Furthermore, the addition of creativity in midfield in the form of Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe has given Arteta’s side an injection of energy and dynamism that had been lacking in previous campaigns.

While their Top Four credentials have rarely been in contention, should Arsenal maintain their current form, they are sure to be challenging for major honours in the near future.
