The Dutchman was hoping to secure Morocco international Amrabat on a permanent basis, though Financial Fair Play rules mean they are now exploring a season-long loan deal.

Amrabat impressed for his nation at the World Cup in Qatar and is understood pushing for a move to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old is under contract with the Serie A giants until 2024, and has attracted plenty of interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and United’s bitter rivals Liverpool.

Man United have already splashed £60million on Mason Mount, but given the former Chelsea star is out injured, along with Kobbie Mainoo, Ten Hag has been left with no option but to bolster his ranks.

The Red Devils are eyeing a number of targets for defensive midfield competition, including Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Though Amrabat is Ten Hag’s preferred choice having worked with him during his time at Eredivisie side Utrecht.

Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has since confirmed Amrabat hasn’t been training and is out of contention for selection amid his desire to move to Old Trafford.

talkSPORT can also reveal United are to allow Van de Beek to leave the club before the deadline.

The 26-year-old has struggled since joining the club in a £40million deal three years ago from Ajax, starting just six Premier League games, netting just twice in 60 games.

Real Sociedad have been linked with the midfielder, though United have since agreed a deal with Lorient.

The Ligue 1 side are set to take him on-loan for the remainder of the campaign.

United are eighth in the Premier League with six points, and face Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday in a blockbuster encounter.
