The Dutchman was hoping to secure Morocco international Amrabat on a permanent basis, though Financial Fair Play rules mean they are now exploring a season-long loan deal.
Amrabat impressed for his nation at the World Cup in Qatar and is understood pushing for a move to Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is under contract with the Serie A giants until 2024, and has attracted plenty of interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and United’s bitter rivals Liverpool.
Man United have already splashed £60million on Mason Mount, but given the former Chelsea star is out injured, along with Kobbie Mainoo, Ten Hag has been left with no option but to bolster his ranks.
The Red Devils are eyeing a number of targets for defensive midfield competition, including Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Though Amrabat is Ten Hag’s preferred choice having worked with him during his time at Eredivisie side Utrecht.
Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has since confirmed Amrabat hasn’t been training and is out of contention for selection amid his desire to move to Old Trafford.

The Ligue 1 side are set to take him on-loan for the remainder of the campaign.
