Manchester United have confirmed that Portuguese midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes will take up the captain’s armband from long-serving defender Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils have gone through a period of transition since the departure of talisman and leader Paul Pogba. However, the club has now found their passionate leader in the 25-year-old Fernandes who has excelled with his ability to bring out the best in his teammates both on and off the pitch.

Since Fernandes’ move to the 20-time English champions, the club has seen improved performances from practically all of their players. The midfielder has brought a winning mentality to the club and is the beating heart of the team.

The decision to crown Fernandes the club’s new captain is a huge signal of the trust manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown towards the player, as well as a reflection of the positive impact he has had since his arrival.

Club captain Maguire will remain a respected figure at Old Trafford and was known as a leader both on the field and in the dressing room. The United faithful will no doubt be sad to see such a leader depart, but they will no doubt be delighted to crown a new ambitious leader in Fernandes.

The new captain has already contributed to multiple Premier League wins and his major trophy drought ended last season when he lifted the Europa League with the Red Devils.

An official statement on the club website stated, “We are delighted to announce Bruno Fernandes as our new captain, and Harry Maguire will remain his deputy. Both have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and values since joining the club and they have been fantastic role models to youngsters both on and off the pitch.”

As Manchester United look to build a team able to reclaim their spot as a top Premier League team, they have found the perfect man to lead them in Bruno Fernandes.
