Manchester United chiefs ‘take active role’ in trying to calm tensions between Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag

Manchester United director of football John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold are reportedly acting as mediators in the dispute between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

The manager and player became embroiled in a war of words after Sancho publicly denied claims made by Ten Hag that he was left out of the squad to face Arsenal before the international break due to his performance levels in training.

Sancho returned to training at the start of the week with non-international players being given last week off, and is understood to have held showdown talks with the Dutchman.

It’s said that officials are looking to draw a line under the spat and the Daily Mail reports Arnold and Murtough have taken an active role in trying to ease tensions between Ten Hag and Sancho.

The report adds that Murtough is ‘heavily involved’ in the reconciliation process. Arnold is regularly updated on the progress of those talks, however, Murtough’s role is ‘significantly more prominent’.

But the dispute is unsurprisingly not an easy one to resolve.

On Tuesday, Sancho removed the social media post, which was pinned at the top of his X (formerly Twitter) profile, rejecting Ten Hag’s claims that he wasn’t training well enough.

However, it remains to be seen whether this could lead to Sancho being involved in Man United‘s next matchday squad as they face Brighton on Saturday, live on talkSPORT 2.

Sancho has struggled to replicate the form he showed at previous club Borussia Dortmund, which led to Man United forking out £73million for his services in the summer of 2021.

He’s failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Ten Hag, scoring just seven goals in all competitions since the Dutchman took over.

The 23-year-old was absent from the squad for a three-month period last term, Ten Hag saying Sancho not being physically or mentally fit enough.
