Luton have only played two games so far this season due to their opening home match of the season being postponed due to the necessary refurbishment of their stadium to meet Premier League requirements.

Rob Edwards’ side have started the season off with back to back away fixtures against tough opposition, kicking off with a 4-1 defeat away at last season’s sixth placed side Brighton, before falling 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

The defeats leaves the Hatters 19th in the table ahead of the weekend’s action, only ahead of Everton on goals scored, though the Bedfordshire side have played a game fewer.

West Ham have surprised many by picking up seven points from their opening three matches to leave them second in the table, after three rounds of matches, including surprising wins against Brighton and Chelsea, both of whom Luton have already fallen to defeat to.

David Moyes’ side kicked off the season with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on the opening day of the season, before upsetting the odds to beat Chelsea and Brighton both by 3-1 score lines, the latter of the two coming away from home at a stadium they lost 4-0 at last season.

The Hammers only trail defending champions and last season’s treble winners Manchester City in the Premier League table, with the East London side’s impressive goal difference and goal tally ensuring the lead the four-strong group of teams on seven points.

Friday night will be the first time the two teams have met since an FA Cup quarter-final replay in 1994, in which a Scott Oakes hat trick gave the Hatters a 3-2 victory.

Edwards and Moyes have never met before in their managerial careers, but the Scot has faced Luton on several occasions before, winning six of the seven matches he’s faced against them, drawing the other – the majority of which during his spell in charge of Preston.
