John Terry says Manchester United star Mason Mount is still ‘proper Chels’ and insists there’s another side to exit story

John Terry has defended Mason Mount’s controversial move to Manchester United as he labelled the midfielder as ‘proper Chels’.

The 24-year-old swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in July in a deal rising to £60million.

It was a transfer that divided the Blues fanbase, with many left reeling that their academy graduate joined a Premier League rival.

But Chelsea legend Terry has claimed there is an ‘untold story’ to his west London exit in the summer.

And he also urged the club’s supporters not to jeer Mount when he returns to Chelsea with the Red Devils later in the season.

Speaking to Knockout Events on Friday, five-time Premier League winner Terry said: “Mase is proper Chels through and through.

“There’s always two sides to a story and I know the other side to it.

“I’m not going to air that tonight, but there’s another side to the story.

“Let’s not be too harsh on him when he comes back.”

Mount started the opening two top-flight matches for United, but is currently out injured with a hamstring knock.

He struggled in his first two competitive appearances, with boss Erik ten Hag stating he needs time to get used to his deeper role.

The Dutchman told MUTV: “I think he can [play deeper].

“Already, we have seen it in pre-season, but it’s what I’ve said, definitely we have to work on many facets of our game.

“But also that facet about midfield and the co-operation, how we have to set it.

“I’m sure we will get it [right], but it’s not coming overnight and [if] it was easier then everyone could do it.”
