Jamie Carragher thinks Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool next summer but says ‘Klopp 2’ Reds have brought the buzz back

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that next summer will see Mohamed Salah leave Anfield for pastures new.

However, he thinks the new-look Reds have brought back ‘energy and buzz’ back to the fans amid their strong start to the season.

After four games of the new campaign, Liverpool already sit third in the Premier League table thanks to three wins and a draw.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already faced tough tests against Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa but are yet to be beaten.

The club bid farewell to key players over the summer but have also undergone a midfield rebuild, and Carragher likes what he has seen from the new-look team so far.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I think when we saw the fixture list and you saw Liverpool’s first four fixtures, we’re all the same, we all think, ‘What would we take from them and get to that first international break?’

“You think, ‘Well if you had maybe eight points, seven wouldn’t be the end of the world, couple of wins and a draw, you might lose one when you’re playing Newcastle away, Chelsea away.’

“But to come out with ten points and thinking of the actual football they played certainly against Aston Villa, who’ve had some good performances, and also how they won at Newcastle.

“It feels like a really brilliant start for Liverpool and I think it’s just given everyone their energy back and buzz, because last season was so tough.

“We all know we’ve had it so good for so long but you just want to get back to winning most weeks, just get that feeling that you’re on the way somewhere. It does feel like almost the start of a new team or ‘Klopp 2’ Liverpool fans are calling it.

“Few new players in and probably over the next 12 months you’ll see almost a completely different team. Hopefully Liverpool can have some of the success that they’ve had over the last few years.”

Amid fan delight in their positive start to the season, a cloud of uncertainty over Salah’s future has been hanging over Anfield.

The forward, who has scored 188 goals in 309 appearances for the club, has been the subject of heavy interest to Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, who proposed a potential deal worth £215million.

The Saudi transfer window remains open until Thursday but Carragher believes he will stay at Liverpool for one final season, although finding his replacement could prove tough.

“I think the feeling amongst most Liverpool supporters is that we’ve maybe got him for one more season. Rather than let him go now at the start of a new season with no chance of actually bringing someone in right away.

“The fact that Liverpool have started well, we should hope that there’s a really good chance they make top four, could they really challenge [Manchester] City like they have done in the past? That’s the bigger question mark.

“But I think for all parties it almost feels right next summer where Liverpool you think would still get a substantial transfer fee.

“Liverpool would have Salah this season and give him a great opportunity for success and then Liverpool would have 12 months of thinking maybe someone, if there’s somebody out there who could possibly replace him.

“But, I always think it’s difficult to replace players of that quality, I think what you’ve go to try and do is almost think, ‘How can we improve not just in that position but can those funds improve us in different areas as well?’

“So, Liverpool have still got areas they can improve on but I think it would be very difficult to get rid of Salah right away. Great players come, great players go and he got to where we want.”
