‘I like when Pep shouts at me’ – Erling Haaland has room in laughter when discussing Guardiola ‘row’

Erling Haaland has insisted that he likes it when Pep Guardiola shouts at him.

The Manchester City superstar was named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year ahead of Lionel Messi and Kevin De Bruyne, and discussed his incredible season in front of an audience in Monaco.

Haaland was key in an incredible European treble during his first season in England where he scored 52 goals in 53 games.

Things have started in a similar fashion for the Norwegian this term, with three goals in three Premier League games giving City a perfect start to the season.

However, despite kicking things off with a first-half double in the league curtain-raiser against Burnley, Haaland was berated by his manager at the break in a moment picked up by the cameras.

During the UEFA awards ceremony, talkSPORT’s Reshmin Chowdhury asked Haaland about the moment and who he finds more scary out of Guardiola, and his father Alf-Inge.

“Good question, sometimes Pep is a bit scary, I have to say,” he replied. “But my father can also be a bit scary.

“But anyways this is something I like, I like it when Pep shouts at me because he tries to get something in my brain that he doesn’t think I have.

“So I like it, I’m not complaining at all, he just wants to make me a better footballer so I’m not complaining at all.

“My father and me, we argue a lot, we have a lot of good moments together, so I’m not complaining at all either.”

Ahead of the awards, City and Haaland had just learned of their group for this season’s Champions League, and will have been delighted to have landed Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys.

Before that, though, Haaland faces Fulham in the Premier League before heading on international duty with Norway.
