Over the past few seasons, Bruno Fernandes has been one of the most impactful players in the Premier League. Manchester United acquired his services in January 2020, and he quickly became a fan favorite by scoring eight goals in 14 Premier League matches that season. Since his arrival, Fernandes has arguably been United’s most important player.
However, down in London, Tottenham had come close to signing Fernandes from Sporting in the previous transfer window, only for the move to fall through. This left Fernandes angry, but he eventually got his dream move to Old Trafford. In an interview with The Athletic in 2022, Fernandes revealed that he wanted to go to the Premier League and that Tottenham’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, was keen on signing him. Despite a good offer, Sporting did their best to keep him, and the president spoke with Fernandes on the wrong day, right after they refused Tottenham’s offer. Fortunately, United’s manager at the time, Marcel Keizer, was the right one for Fernandes.
Tottenham’s loss turned out to be United’s gain, as Fernandes instantly became a hero at the club and one of the first names on the teamsheet. He was even named the club captain by manager Erik ten Hag, taking the armband off Harry Maguire. Fernandes is known for his ability to take free-kicks, corners, and penalties, as well as his fantastic goals and incredible vision. In his 185 games for United, he has scored 64 goals and provided 54 assists, helping the club finish in the top four in three of the four seasons he has been at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Tottenham has clearly missed out on a midfielder with Fernandes’ attacking output during that time period. While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, and Rodrigo Bentancur have their strengths, they don’t come close to what Fernandes can do. Other midfielders like Yves Bissouma, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso have also been snubbed in the meantime.
However, with Ange Postecoglou now in charge and the arrival of James Maddison, Tottenham’s midfield might be about to change. Only time will tell if they can find a player who can match Fernandes’ impact.
In conclusion, Bruno Fernandes has been a game-changer for Manchester United since his arrival, while Tottenham has missed out on his talents. The midfielder’s move to Old Trafford has proven to be a dream come true, and he continues to excel on the pitch.
Today marks a turning point in my football career as I join one of the world’s most successful and prestigious clubs, Manchester United. I arrived at the club with a great sense of anticipation and excitement, but also with a tremendous amount of disappointment from the recent news that my transfer to Tottenham Hotspur had collapsed.
It was an emotionally draining period for me, as my dream was to move to an ambitious club that would provide an excellent opportunity to develop my skills and become a better player. Tottenham Hotspur seemed to fit that bill perfectly, and I was elated when the possibility of a transfer arrived. Unfortunately, the deal fell through and I was left feeling dejected and angry.
The disappointment was only temporary, however, and I quickly realized that I must use my disappointment to frame my next step forward. After much deliberation, I decided to take the chance to join Manchester United and embark on a new journey.
The training facilities at the club are of the highest order and the atmosphere is excellent. I am confident that this is the right place for me to take the skills I have learnt and develop them to reach the highest levels. Furthermore, the coaching staff are highly experienced and have cultivated a culture of success. The passion of the Manchester United fans is legendary, and I cannot wait to wear the shirt and give back to them with my performances.
The experience of watching my old move to Tottenham Hotspur fall through has been a difficult lesson to learn, but I am certain that I can use it to my advantage. My move to Manchester United marks the start of a new chapter and I am determined to make the most of the opportunities that are presented to me in order to become the best version of myself both on and off the pitch.
