‘I hope I didn’t break a rib!’ – Jamie Carragher wiped out by Burnley shareholder and NFL legend JJ Watt

Jamie Carragher got more than what he bargained for after being wiped out by NFL legend JJ Watt.

The Liverpool favourite was on punditry duty for the Premier League opener between Burnley and Manchester City at Turf Moor, when they invited the American football star for an on-air chat.

Watt, a minority shareholder in the Clarets, was speaking about the club’s return to the top-flight when Carragher decided to ask him about his own background, something that backfired big time.

Speaking on Friday Night Football, Carragher said: “Listen, I know you’re a big star in the NFL.

“I’ve been watching ‘The Quarterback’, a brilliant show, and I know your job is to tackle the quarterback.

“I’m going to be the quarterback, he [Gary Neville] is going to be the quarterback.”

Watt replied: “I think there’s a lot of people who want you to be the quarterback!”

Agreeing to be the quarterback, Carragher made his way onto the Turf Moor pitch and threw the ball to Neville, with Watt charging towards the ex-Liverpool star to tackle him.

With Burnley fans in the background cheering, Watt saw the funny side.

He remarked: “I’m going to get yelled at, the pitch is ruined. I hope I didn’t break a rib, send me the bill!”

A third added: “W JJ Watt.”
