Hugh Jackman watches as Wrexham given a rude awakening by MK Dons in League Two return

Hollywood star Hugh Jackman had an unfortunate experience as Wrexham made their return to the EFL, losing to MK Dons. Jackman was present at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday as the Welsh side suffered a 5-3 defeat at home.

Wrexham, who were considered one of the favorites for promotion from League Two, were given a harsh reality check in their first fourth-tier match in 15 years. MK Dons, who were relegated from League One last season, put on an impressive display, leading 2-1 at halftime with an own goal from Eoghan O’Connell and a goal from Mohamed Eisa. Jacob Mendy pulled one back for Wrexham just before the break, but they couldn’t mount a comeback in the second half.

Despite the presence of co-owner Ryan Reynolds and Jackman, who stars in the upcoming Marvel film ‘Deadpool 3,’ Wrexham couldn’t turn the tide. Jonathan Leko, a former West Brom starlet, scored twice in the second half to extend MK Dons’ lead. Jordan Davies managed to score a late consolation goal for Wrexham, but Daniel Harvie sealed the victory for MK Dons in added time. Anthony Forde quickly responded with a goal for Wrexham, bringing an end to an exciting match.

Wrexham’s late goals prevented them from finishing the day at the bottom of the table. Their National League rivals, Notts County, currently occupy the 24th spot after suffering a 5-1 defeat to Sutton.

The day started with optimism for Wrexham, with Jackman expressing his delight at finally attending a live match on social media. He shared pictures of himself with Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney, tweeting: “Finally snagged an invite. Thanks Wrex.” However, football fans were quick to joke that he might not be invited back after the team’s loss.

In other football news, talkSPORT has launched a new match center where fans can stay updated with the latest fixtures, results, and standings. The Premier League fixtures and table, as well as all other fixtures and league tables, can be found on the talkSPORT website.
Hugh Jackman, the famous actor and Wrexham AFC supporter, watched on as his beloved team suffered a 4 – 1 defeat against MK Dons in their first game in League Two. It was a rude awakening for Wrexham as MK Dons raced into a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes of the match.

Wrexham, who were promoted from the National League ahead of the 2020/21 season, started the game brightly and enjoyed more possession and territory in the early periods of the game. However, they were unable to prevent MK Dons from taking the lead with an excellent finish from their Spanish forward, Dylan Asonganyi. Soon after, the same man scored his and MK Dons’ second from the penalty spot. MK Dons also added two more goals in the second half, while the hosts could only find a consolation through Akil Wright in the 89th minute.

Hugh Jackman, who was at the match to show his support for his beloved Wrexham, was seen to be applauding the players and encouraging them throughout the 90 minutes. It was a difficult day at the office for Wrexham, and they now turn their focus to their next game against Tranmere Rovers.

Speaking of this challenging result, Wrexham’s manager, Dean Keates, said: “We know there will be days like this, but it’s disappointing to have to experience it in the first game of the season.”

MK Dons made a statements on their return to the EFL, and clearly showed Wrexham that it’s a different starting in League Two. While Wrexham now face a tough challenge ahead, Hugh Jackman will no doubt be supporting his team every step of the way in League Two.
