A picture of Maddison has been widely shared on social media showing the 26-year-old laughing while holding his leg as an opponent stands over him.
This picture was after Spurs had completed a remarkable comeback to beat the Blades 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
They scored goals in the 98th and 100th minute of the match to grab all three points and continue their unbeaten start to the season.
Fans were suggesting that Maddison was time-wasting at that moment and laughing after Sheffield United were trying to run down the clock themselves before the comeback.
One fan said: “Absolutely love Madders, brilliant character and player.”
Another added: “Man I love him so much.”
A third said: “Top top banter.”
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou mentioned the amount of stoppages and disruption in the game and felt it was something his team could have dealt with better.
Postecoglou has already worked wonders at SpursGetty
He told talkSPORT: “It was a difficult game for the officials and the players as well because there seemed to be a lot of stoppages, a lot of dead time.
“That’s one aspect I felt we could have dealt with better, we got sucked in to talking to the referee rather than getting on with the game.
“There was a lot of disruption to the game and we couldn’t get into it.”
It is now 13 points from their opening five games of the season with a fantastic mood around the club.
Postecoglou added: “It all makes a difference. It’s not just about the football, it never is. Ultimately you are going to deal with adversity and it’s about how you deal with it.
“I thought the fans and the boys were outstanding today. We’re trying to build something here and part of it is the football and how we play but also about the spirit and character of the team.
“Days like today fuel growth.”
