Everton are confident of signing Southampton star Che Adams, talkSPORT understands.

The Toffees have tabled a £12million bid for the Saints striker.

Adams scored five goals in Southampton’s run to the League Cup quarter-finals last term, but could now leave the clubAFP

Scotland international Adams is in the last year of his contract with the Championship outfit and is keen to return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old scored 10 goals in all competitions last season as Southampton suffered relegation back to the second tier.

Adams has played in all of Russell Martin’s side’s games so far this season, scoring in both of their league games.

The Leicester-born star signed from Birmingham in 2019 for £15m and has gone on to make 148 appearances, scoring 33 times in that time.

The Saints have already lost captain James Ward-Prowse following their relegation, with the midfielder signing for West Ham.

Meanwhile, the Toffees are in search of another striker in an effort to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation battle.

Firepower was a real issue for Everton last term, with the Toffees scoring just 34 goals in 38 Premier League games as they survived on the final day.

Aside from new signing Chermiti, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is struggling with his fitness and Neal Maupay has only scored one goal in 30 appearances since he signed last summer.

Everton have already snapped up another Championship star, Leeds’ Jack Harrison, signing him on a season-long loan.

As well as Chermiti and Harrison, Sean Dyche has also brought Ashley Young in on a free transfer and long-standing target Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.
