Erik ten Hag confirms Manchester United will still be without summer signing Sofyan Amrabat for Brighton clash

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed he will not be able to select Sofyan Amrabat for this weekend’s clash against Brighton.

Amrabat was signed on loan from Fiorentina until the end of the season to bolster United’s midfield.

An injury to Mason Mount has left them light while Fred departed and Scott McTominay is not fancied by Ten Hag.

But disaster struck over the international break when it emerged that new midfield talent Amrabat had also picked up an injury while with Morocco.

And Ten Hag has revealed that the injury means the 27-year-old is not available for selection for United’s clash against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch coach said: “Amrabat, he came back unfortunately with the injury, so he will not be available for tomorrow [Saturday].”

Ten Hag was also speaking on Sergio Reguilon, who joined on Deadline Day as well, on loan from Tottenham.

The Spaniard is also yet to make his debut after sitting on the bench for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal before the international break.

But the left-back could feature on Saturday with Diogo Dalot filling in at left-back currently in Luke Shaw’s absence.

Ten Hag added: “We are a little bit short of defenders, so [Reguilon] can come quickly.

“But I think, on the short notice [soon], yes. And I’m sure we will all get joy from them.”

United have several players who will be absent this weekend through injury and other concerns.

Mount, Amrabat and Shaw are among those sidelined through injury, as well as Tyrell Malacia, who has an unspecified problem.

But Antony and Jadon Sancho will also be missing from this weekend’s squad for different reasons.

Antony has been given extended leave from the international break after allegations of abuse were made at him, which he denies.

Sancho, on the other hand, has been told to train separately from the main group after a spat with Ten Hag.

The winger has been told to apologise to the United boss but has refused to after calling him out on social media for dropping him from the squad to face Arsenal earlier this month.
