Scotland have been the surprise team of the qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 so far, where they find themselves top of Group A with a 100% record.
Steve Clarke’s side shocked the continent with their 2-0 win over Spain in Glasgow back in March and their dramatic 2-1 win away at Norway in which they scored twice in the final three minutes to turn the match on its head.
Scotland now lead the group by eight points heading into Friday’s match, though they have played a game or two more than the majority of teams in the group.
Steve Clarke’s side are in a fantastic position to reach their second consecutive European Championship having not previously reached one since 1996, and hadn’t qualified for any major tournament since 1998.
Cyprus have lost all three of their opening qualification matches as they attempt to reach their first ever major tournament.
Temur Ketsbaia’s side kicked off qualification with a 3-0 defeat to Scotland in Glasgow back in March, before also falling to defeat at home against Georgia and away at Norway.
The Cypriots can still finish in the top two and secure qualification for next summer’s Euros in Germany, but need to start winning games quickly, and at home against the group leaders on Friday night would be the perfect way to end their current losing streak.
Scotland have won all eight of their previous meetings with Cyprus, with their 3-0 over the Mediterranean side back in March their biggest win over the opposition since an 8-0 win back in 1969.
