Palace couldn’t resist playing Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis on their Olise video
Chelsea had triggered a £35million release clause in his previous deal, however they were left surprised by his decision to stay at Selhurst Park.
Palace had every right to feel smug after seeing off the advances of one of world football’s biggest sides, something that they showed by sharing a video of Olise in action on Instagram.
Playing over the footage of him spraying an exquisite pass to Eberechi Eze, the highlight clip accompanied by the song Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis.
Olise’s u-turn over his future certainly was a dagger to the heart of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but for Palace boss Roy Hodgson, it was the ultimate good-news story.
He told the club website: “It’s the best possible news we could have.
“I had been concerned – it’s always concerning when a club of Chelsea’s stature take interest in a player, and people will suggest that a move to them might be the best bet.
“I had always hoped that wouldn’t be the case and that Michael would realise that at such a young age his future here is very bright, and we can help him move very quickly on to another level.
“I am delighted for the club, and I must congratulate Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman on the fantastic job they have done in persuading him that, even though there was pressure from outside, ‘this is your place and this is where we think you will progress in the right way and develop in the right way’.”
Olise, who is currently nursing a hamstring injury, scored two goals and provided 11 assists for Palace last season after signing from Reading in 2021.
