Now under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs didn’t take long to show their attacking threat away at the Bees.
They won a free-kick on the left hand side of the area and James Maddison whipped it in and onto the head of Romero.
After a check for offside by VAR the goal was given and the defender had cause for celebration.
However, he was substituted off by Postecoglou just seconds later after he appeared to take a knock to the head during the goal.
Kick-off in west London was delayed due to a sanitation issue at the Gtech Community Stadium.
However it was only a matter of minutes before play got underway for the London derby.
Romero’s header may have put the visitors into the lead but Brentford were on hand to find a response in the 26th minute.
Spurs’ new captain Heung-min Son was adjudged to have fouled Mathias Jensen in the area.
After a VAR check by referee Robert Jones a penalty was awarded, with Bryan Mbeumo equalising from the spot.
