Chelsea increasingly hopeful of striking Moises Caicedo deal as they look to hijack Liverpool’s £111million move

Chelsea are increasingly hopeful of beating Liverpool to the signing of Moises Caicedo, talkSPORT understands.

The Reds had seen a £111million offer accepted in recent days, a breakthrough that handed Jurgen Klopp’s side the ascendancy in the race to secure his signature.

However Chelsea have now indicated they are willing to pay £115m for Mauricio Pochettino’s primary target.

1Chelsea is the preferred destination of Caicedo with the 21-year-old stalling on arranging a medical with the Reds in order to allow the west London time to agree a deal of their own.

Should the move go through, it would be a British transfer record, while also making him the third most expensive player ever.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was asked about Caicedo’s future following their 4-1 win over Luton, but remained tight-lipped on his future.

Asked if there’s been a bid from Chelsea, De Zerbi told talkSPORT: “I don’t know.

“From Monday I’ll be looking towards Wolverhampton and from Monday morning I’ll be preparing for the next game.

“If Caicedo leaves we need another midfielder with the same characteristics because we lost that power in the midfield position but it’s not my [job] to talk about Moises or the transfer market.”

Asked if he’d like it resolved quickly, De Zerbi said: “I’d like to win against Wolverhampton.”
