Chelsea have ‘told Mykhailo Mudryk to tone down gym sessions’ as he aims to rekindle form

Mykhailo Mudryk has been urged to tone down his work in the gym, following concerns he is overdoing it, according to reports.

The 22-year-old joined the Blues in January in a deal which could reach £88million (€100m).

The Ukraine international starred at Shakhtar Donetsk before his move to the west London side.

But since moving to Stamford Bridge, Mudryk has been a shadow of the player he was back in his homeland.

He has managed just eight starts under four different managers during the last and current campaign.

His woes don’t appear to be down to a lack of effort but it’s been suggested Mudryk’s hard work off the pitch is starting to a be a cause for concern at the club.

According to The Athletic, Mudryk undergoes additional gym work away from the club, despite conducting his normal requirements at Cobham.

He can often be seen working out with personal trainer Dima Chapovskyi, with videos often posted on his Instagram.

But the report adds that there are concerns he’s doing too much gym work to the extent that he’s been told to ease things up.

The Ukraine ace was absent for Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Luton nursing a calf injury.

Pochettino has backed Mudryk to succeed at Chelseagetty

Pochettino has previously heaped praise on Mudryk, and remains optimistic he will eventually shine at Chelsea.

“He’s a young player and a player that has a lot of talent,” the former Spurs boss said.

“I think he needs to build his continuity and trust (with his teammates), work hard in the training sessions during the week and continue to show he is ready to perform.

“We need to also build that trust with him and he needs to build it with us as part of the team, as is the same with many of our younger players.”
