But he ended up being out-shone by Chris Wood, whose brilliant last-minute header secured a first win of the season and left the Blades pointless.

After Michael Olise signed a new four-year deal with Crystal Palace, the Blues have turned their attention elsewhere.

talkSPORT understands that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest star Johnson.

Preliminary talks have already been held over a potential move as Chelsea look to continue their heavy summer spending.

Johnson’s efforts for Forest have certainly caught the eye of the Premier League giants.

However it’s his teammate Awoniyi, a former Liverpool youngster, who has been identified as someone who should be targeted instead.

The striker scored his second goal of the season on Friday night in a 2-1 win over Sheffield United, and it was also the eighth he has netted in his last six Premier League appearances.

Responding to the opener, one fan said: “Instead of Chelsea going after Nottingham Forest Brennan Johnson they should rather go after his teammate Awoniyi. He keeps scoring goals.”

“Taiwo Awoniyi is what Chelsea need from Nottingham Forest. Forget about Brennan Johnson. They need a proper Target man #9 [Didier] Drogba-esque… Back to goal to unlock/complement Nicolas Jackson,” added another.

One Forest fan is hoping to keep one of their star assets: “Never mind Johnson at this rate we’ll be fending off bids for Awoniyi!”

Johnson had a helping hand in Awoniyi’s goal as he teed up Serge Aurier for the assist in the opening three minutes.

Sheffield United hit back early in the second half courtesy of a sublime curling strike from Gustavo Hamer.

However, it was Chris Wood who was the man of the hour for Forest as he scored an 89th minute header to take all three points.

The goal was the just the striker’s second for Steve Cooper’s side, whom he initially joined on loan from Newcastle last season.

His move to the City Ground was made permanent this summer and it hasn’t taken him long to make a positive impact.

Forest have now won their first game of the season following their narrow 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend.

Sheffield United however now sit bottom of the Premier League as they fell to their second defeat in as many games.
