And the 19-year-old may have to wait longer for his debut after picking up a knock in Chelsea training.

The teenager has had a scan on his ankle, with the west Londoners now awaiting the results.

Chelsea have been hampered by injuries to a number of their first-team stars this season.

Summer signing Christopher Nkunku is yet to make his competitive debut for the club after suffering a knee injury in pre-season against Borussia Dortmund.

Defender Wesley Fofana, midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and striker Armando Broja have all suffered similar fates and are currently on the sidelines.

Captain Reece James has been out with a hamstring injury since the club’s Premier League against Liverpool.

Meanwhile centre-backs Benoit Badiashile and Trevor Chalobah are also missing with their own knocks.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino has quickly made use of his squad depth after taking over as manager in July.

However, it appears that Chelsea’s achilles heel may once again be owing to a full treatment room.

The Blues’ are slumped in 12th place on the table after their opening four games of the season.

With no European football at their disposal and huge sums splashed in the transfer window, much is expected of Pochettino side this time around.

But a return of one win, two defeats and a draw has raised more questions than answers so far.

Chelsea return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth after the international break.
