Chelsea close to tying Levi Colwill down to new six-year deal and seek buyers for Trevoh Chalobah

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is reportedly on the verge of signing a new six-year contract with the club, according to talkSPORT. The talented England Under-21s star had been uncertain about his future, but Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has convinced him of his importance to the team. Despite attracting interest from other clubs, including Brighton and Liverpool, Colwill has decided to commit his future to Stamford Bridge.

Colwill, who spent last season on loan at Brighton, played a key role in England’s successful Under-21 European Championship campaign, where they emerged as champions without conceding a single goal in six matches. There were rumors that Brighton might sign Colwill permanently, with midfielder Moises Caicedo potentially going the other way. Liverpool also expressed interest in the player following his impressive performances for England in Romania and Georgia. However, it now seems that Colwill will remain at Chelsea.

On the other hand, defender Trevoh Chalobah could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are actively looking for a buyer for the 24-year-old, as revealed by talkSPORT in May. Chalobah, who was born in Southampton, has been with Chelsea since he was nine years old. He spent last season on loan at Huddersfield Town.

Chelsea have been highly active in the transfer market this summer, bringing in eight new players, including forwards Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. However, they have also seen several notable departures, such as Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mason Mount.
Chelsea Football Club is understood to be close to agreeing to a new long-term deal with Levi Colwill, with the youngster set to sign a six-year contract.

The news follows the successful season that Colwill enjoyed during his breakthrough campaign with the Blues, in which he made 15 appearances across all competitions.

The 18-year-old has begun to establish himself as a key part of manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans and the club are said to be eager to tie him down to a contract that will reflect his increasing importance.

As well as wrapping up Colwill’s future at the club, Chelsea are also looking to move on midfielder Trevoh Chalobah and explore potential buyers ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Chalobah spent this past season out on loan to both Huddersfield Town and Lorient in a bid to gain more regular game time, however it is thought that the club are now looking to cash-in on the England under 21 midfielder.

The 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the first team since joining in 2017 and could enjoy a fresh start away from Chelsea should a suitable buyer be found.

Regardless of any potential departures, it increasingly looks as if Chelsea could field one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League next season, with further investment into young homegrown talent likely over the summer.
