Chelsea add Leeds star Tyler Adams to list of four Moises Caicedo alternatives which includes Liverpool transfer target Romeo Lavia

Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams is reportedly being considered by Chelsea as an alternative to Brighton star Moises Caicedo. Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, is eager to strengthen his midfield before the upcoming Premier League season. The Blues have already sold several players and released N’Golo Kante, leaving them with limited options in midfield. According to The Times, Chelsea has compiled a shortlist of five players, with Caicedo being their primary target. However, Brighton has rejected three bids from Chelsea, including their latest offer of £80 million. Brighton is standing firm on their £100 million valuation of Caicedo, and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will meet their demands.

If Chelsea fails to secure a deal for Caicedo, they have four other players in mind. One of them is Tyler Adams, who currently plays for Leeds. Adams joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last year but was unable to help the team avoid relegation. The Times has reported that Adams has a relegation release clause in his contract. However, it is uncertain whether Chelsea will make a formal bid for Adams, as he is currently recovering from hamstring surgery.

Another player on Chelsea’s radar is Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who is also being pursued by Liverpool. Alternatively, Chelsea could revisit their interest in Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, whom they failed to sign last summer. Alvarez is available for around £40 million. Lastly, Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga is also on Chelsea’s shortlist. Veiga had an impressive 2022/23 season, scoring 11 goals in 36 LaLiga matches.

In other news, Chelsea is set to announce the signing of midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Rennes in a £23 million deal. However, it is expected that the 19-year-old will be loaned back to France to continue his development.

Chelsea have taken another step towards revamping their squad ahead of the summer transfer window, with the addition of Leeds star Tyler Adams to their list of four transfer targets.

The 20-year-old American midfielder has emerged as a viable alternative to their first-choice target Moises Caicedo of Ecuadorian club Independiente de Valle. Chelsea have been monitoring Caicedo for the past several weeks, looking to bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge from South America. However, with his price tag considered excessive by the Blues hierarchy, they’ve now broadened their search for a midfield recruit.

Adams has been an impressive figure for Leeds United this season and could be an excellent signing for Chelsea, providing a useful option in a midfield that already includes Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic. The former New York Red Bulls player is versatile and can play in midfield and even right back. Chelsea are confident he could become a key part of the club’s plans going forward.

The Blues are also looking at other options to fortify their midfield, including Liverpool transfer target Romeo Lavia. The Ecuadorian has been impressive for Liga MX outfit Deportivo Toluca and is understood to be a less expensive option than Caicedo. Chelsea are also believed to be monitoring midfielders Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan and Zenit St. Petersburg’s Wilmar Barrios.

Whomever Chelsea decide to bring in to strengthen their midfield, it’s clear that they are taking the necessary steps to build a competitive team for the 2021/22 season. With Adams now in the frame, it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks of the transfer window develop for the Blues.
