Brighton set to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United to the signing of £34.5million Ajax star Mohammed Kudus
Brighton have reportedly reached a £34.5 million agreement with Ajax to sign Mohammed Kudus, in what would be a club-record deal. The 23-year-old midfielder has been the subject of much speculation this summer after an impressive season with the Dutch side. Despite not winning any trophies, Kudus contributed 18 goals and seven assists in 42 games across all competitions. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United were all interested in signing him, but failed to make a formal bid.
In June, talkSPORT revealed that Brighton had expressed interest in acquiring Kudus. Now, it is understood that the south coast club has successfully secured a transfer with Ajax for the Ghana international. The deal is said to be nearing completion, with only personal terms left to be finalized before a medical examination can take place.
If the transfer goes through, it will surpass Brighton’s previous record signing of Joao Pedro for £30 million earlier in the window. Kudus has spent the last three seasons at Ajax, winning the Eredivisie title twice and the Dutch Cup once during his time there. He is expected to fill the void left by Alexis Mac Allister and will be Brighton’s sixth first-team signing this summer.
Prior to the Kudus deal, Brighton had already made several notable signings. They brought in Brazilian forward Pedro from Watford, as well as midfielders Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner on free transfers. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen was signed from Anderlecht for £16.3 million, followed by the arrival of centre-back Igor from Fiorentina for £15 million.
Brighton’s Premier League campaign will commence with a match against Luton at the Amex Stadium next week. Additionally, talkSPORT has introduced a new match center where fans can stay updated with the latest football fixtures, results, and standings. It provides comprehensive coverage of the Premier League, including fixtures, the league table, and all other relevant information.
Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly edging closer to a stunning £34.5million deal to sign highly rated Ajax star Mohammed Kudus.
The 20-year old attacking midfielder, who has emerged as one of the most talented prospects in Europe, has been heavily linked with moves to Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea. However, it now seems Brighton are set to win the race for his signature.
After being part of Ghana’s nation U20 World Cup win in 2019, Kudus has gone on to become a regular in the senior team.
He’s since established himself as a key player of Ajax’s midfield, scoring 11 goals and making 4 assists in 28 league appearances and chipping in with a further 5 goals and 4 assists in all competitions this season.
His proposed move to the south coast would be a huge coup for Brighton, as they look to build on their successful 11th-place Premier League finish after an impressive debut season under head coach Graham Potter.
Kudus is seen as an ideal fit for Potter’s style of play, which requires his team to be tactically flexible, adaptable and make the most of possession.
The transfer would be one of Brighton’s biggest ever transfers and could have a big impact on their push for a top-half finish in England’s top-flight next season.
If the deal does go through, it would be a huge statement of intent from Brighton and a huge blow to the clubs losing out on Kudus’ signature.
