Holding faces stiff competition for a starting spot from Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Jakub Kiwior.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, discussions remain ongoing between Arsenal and the player over a solution.

Romano tweeted that Spanish clubs Mallorca and Sevilla, who are in this season’s Champions League, are running the rule over the defender, while their is also interest from Luton.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is prepared to sanction a move despite new recruit Jurrien Timber being ruled out for the season.

Holding could opt to join Tierney in Spain, with the Scotland defender deciding to join Real Sociedad on a season-long loan having fallen behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in left-back pecking order.

Holding has been at Arsenal since 2016 when he left Bolton, while Tierney had been at the clubs since his £25million for move from Celtic in in 2019.

Newcastle and former club Celtic had been keen on the full-back, only for the players to opt for a move to San Sebastian.

Arsenal are fifth with seven points from their opening three matches of the campaign.
