Arsenal could wrap up David Raya transfer in next two days as Matt Turner agrees to join Nottingham Forest

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is rumored to be joining Arsenal in the next couple of days. Reports suggest that Arsenal has made an initial bid of £20 million, with an additional £3 million in add-ons, for the 27-year-old. However, Brentford has rejected this offer and is holding out for a fee closer to £40 million.

Despite the initial setback, it seems that Arsenal and Brentford are getting closer to reaching an agreement. This is likely due to the potential departure of Matt Turner, who currently serves as Aaron Ramsdale’s backup at Arsenal. Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal is now closer than ever to signing Raya, and the deal could be finalized within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Raya has reportedly already agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, turning down a move to Bayern Munich in the process. Brentford is eager to offload the Spanish goalkeeper, as he has refused to extend his contract beyond 2024.

If the transfer goes through, Raya will be Mikel Arteta’s fourth major signing this summer, following the arrivals of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz. On the other hand, Turner is set to leave Arsenal and join Nottingham Forest, with personal terms already agreed upon between the player and the club.

Arteta is keen on bringing in a goalkeeper who can provide strong competition for Ramsdale, especially now that Arsenal has secured a spot in the Champions League. Building a world-class squad is crucial for Arteta if he wants to compete in Europe’s premier competition.

In somewhat surprising news, Arsenal looks set to wrap up the signing of David Raya from Brentford in the next two days after the sale of Matt Turner to fellow Championship club Nottingham Forest was confirmed.

The 26-year-old Raya has been one of the standout goalkeepers in English football in recent seasons after impressing in Brentford’s run to the Championship playoff final in 2019/20. He also starred in the Bees’ push for an automatic promotion place the following season and was one of their star performers in their march to the final of the League Cup.

Raya is now set to confirm a move to the Emirates Stadium and take up the role of Mikel Arteta’s second-choice goalkeeper. The Spaniard has been identified as the man to provide support to new first choice Bernd Leno, and is reportedly close to finalising a switch to the club.

The move for Raya has been made possible because Nottingham Forest have agreed to take Turner on a season-long loan deal. The 24-year-old had been pushing to become Arsenal’s number two, but the Gunners have chosen the experience of Raya for the role.

It remains to be seen whether Raya will make his debut for the North Londoners in the Community Shield against Liverpool this weekend, but the move is sure to please fans of the club.
