This is a very open Champions League match with both sides entering the ‘Group of death’ and come into this clash with poor form against their respective opponents’ countries.

Newcastle have only won once away to Italian clubs in five games and that came in their last fixture away to Palermo, back in the 06/07 season in the UEFA Cup.

Similarly, AC Milan have only won once in 11 matches against English sides, which was against Tottenham last season, as the Italian side progressed to the semi-finals.

Callum Wilson has been in fine form for Newcastle, stepping up on Saturday to slot home a penalty against Brentford and bagging a consolation against Brighton at the start of this month and becoming the club’s top scorer as a result.

Olivier Giroud has a wealth of experience and goals in the Champions League, scoring five last season alone for Milan, and another six for Chelsea in the 2020/21 campaign.
